          Anthony Rapp's Biography

American stage and screen actor and singer best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in the Broadway production of Rent in 1996 and later for reprising the role in the film version and the Broadway Tour of Rent in 2009. He also performed the role of Charlie Brown in the 1999 Broadway revival of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and originated the role of Lucas in the musical If/Then in 2014. His screen roles include Lieutenant Paul Stamets on the television series Star Trek: Discovery (2017-).
Rapp has rejected the label of “gay” and instead identifies as “queer.” In November 2019, Rapp announced his engagement to his partner, Ken.
In late October 2017, Rapp alleged that in 1986 actor Kevin Spacey, then aged 26, made a “sexual advance” toward him, when Rapp was 14 years old. Rapp’s allegation was published in a Buzzfeed interview originally posted at 6:32 PM PDT on 29 October in Los Angeles (30-Oct-17, 1:32 AM GMT) [1] [2]. In response, Spacey tweeted at 9 PM PDT on 29 October 2017 in Los Angeles (4 AM UT, 30-Oct-17 [3]) that he didn’t remember the encounter, but that if he behaved as described by Rapp, he owes him the sincerest apology for what would have been “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”
On 9 September 2020, Rapp sued Spacey for sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress under the Child Victims Act. Rapp sought $40 million in damages. On 20 October 2022, a jury found that Spacey did not sexually abuse Rapp.
