          Annabella Doubtfire's Biography

          Scottish shopkeeper who was the inspiration for the title character in Anne Fine’s 1987 novel Madame Doubtfire, later played by American actor Robin Williams in the 1993 comedy-drama film Mrs. Doubtfire.
          Adams married Arthur Cyril Doubtfire on 24 March 1906. He died serving in World War I on 20 November 1916 in the Macedonia region of Greece. She remarried to James Davie “JD” Coutts on 23 July 1921. He seems to have disappeared in 1923 and she went by the name ‘Doubtfire.’
          Annabella Doubtfire ran a second-hand clothes and antiques shop known as ‘Madame Doubtfire’ until 1974, having purchased the building in 1931. She died on 22 November 1979 at age 92 in a hospital in Edinburgh from kidney failure.
