          Andrew Jackson's Biography

American lawyer, jurist, soldier, politician and U.S. President for two terms, 1829-1837. Jackson was admitted to the bar in 1787. He served in the army during the Indian battles, was Governor of Florida in 1819 and a U.S. Senator from 1823-1825.
Jackson married in 1791 and adopted one son, his wife’s nephew. It was two years before her first marriage was legally resolved, so they remarried in 1793.
In 1806, Jackson fought a duel with Charles Dickinson and in 1813, he was shot in the back during a fight, which shattered his health for the rest of his life. He was appointed general of the Tennessee militia, fighting the Creek Indians and his military career continued with battles between both the British and the Indians for the following five years.
His wife died on 22 December 1828, shortly before he entered the White House on 4 March 1829. He was censured by the Senate in 1834, which was expunged two years later.
Jackson died of TB on 8 June 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee.
