          André Chevallier's Biography

          French physician and physiologist, who developed an ultraviolet spectrometer in the 1930s, which measures the presence of vitamin A in the body. André Chevallier is also known for being the first director general of the National Institute of Hygiene, created by the Vichy government by decree of 30 November 1941. He was appointed general manager in February 1942. He retired from the direction of the Institute In 1946, remaining a member of the Scientific Committee. He died on 11 November 1964 in Strasbourg, aged 67.
