Alfred Gerasch's Biography
German film actor who often portrayed high-ranking historical figures such as Talleyrand in Queen Luise, King Louis XV in Marquis d’Eon, the spy of Pompadour (both 1928), Tsar Alexander I in Napoleon on St. Helena (1929), Conrad von Hötzendorf in 1914, the last days before the conflagration (1931), Metternich in Marshal Vorwärts ( 1932), again Talleyrand in Hundred Days (1935), Field Marshal Daun in Fridericus (1937) and Marc Aurel in Die Welt dreht sich verkehrt (1947).
After having taken lessons with Wilhelm Hock, Gerasch had first appeared on stage in 1896 at the Bellevuetheater in Szczecin. In 1897 he went to Hamburg and in 1898 to Oldenburg. In 1899 he reached Karlsruhe, from there he went to Vienna in 1907, where he became a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater.
He died on 12 August 1955, aged 77, in Vienna, Austria.
