French physicist who was Assistant (1905-1951), Assistant Director (1931) and Director (1936) of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. In 1929 he was Chief of the reserve artillery squadron. In 1954 he was President of the Tenth General Conference on Weights and Measures. In 1956 he was President of the First General Conference of the Member States of the International Organization of Legal Metrology. He died on 21 October 1960 in Valence, aged 80.
