          Albert DeSalvo's Biography

American homicide known as the “Boston Strangler.” Called “the phantom fiend,” he terrorized Boston, sexually assaulting and strangling at least 11 women, leaving each victim with stockings or lingerie tied in a neat butterfly knot around her neck. DeSalvo was convicted on 1/18/1968 of ten counts of assault, armed robbery and sex crimes. He was murdered in prison, found dead in his cell from 16 stab wounds 11/25/1973.
Though DeSalvo confessed to the crimes, his family never believed that he was the Boston Strangler and in 2001, began proceedings to check the DNA of his long-buried body. When the grave was exhumed, it revealed the macabre shock that many of his vital organs were missing.
