          Albert Brachet's Biography

Belgian doctor specializing in embryology, particularly morphological and embryological sciences, known as le Jaurès de l’anatomie (the “Jaurès of anatomy”) due to his magnificent eloquence and with reference to Jean Jaurès, the French Socialist leader.
Brachet called his work causal embryology, the set of phenomena which allow the growth and organization of the embryo and saw in it, from an evolutionary perspective, the key to the understanding of historical embryology, far beyond the general description of embryology.
His books include L’œuf et les facteurs de l’ontogenèse (1917) and La vie créatrice des formes (1927).
He died in Brussels on 27 December 1930, aged 61.
