Aitor Carlos Castillo Gaubeka's Biography
Peruvian painter and art critic.
He was the eighth and last son of the famous Peruvian painter Teofilo Castillo Guas and the Spanish lady Maria Gregoria Gaubeka. In 1920, only seven years old, he moved with his parents to Argentina, settling in Tucuman, where he completed his schooling. His father died after two years, so that his childhood and youth was marked by the sacrifice and desire to excel. He said as ideal that the artist must learn to reconcile the universal with the national to achieve momentous achievements. Indeed, his painting has gone through almost all the isms and schools, but without neglecting the influence of local traditions. Initially he practiced attentive to men and urban and rural landscapes of northern Argentina figurative and then ascribed to abstract art, but then returned to the landscape and the expressionist figures, whose spirit derive their “Indigenous Warriors” that occurred between 1964 and 1968 and regards as a real contribution peruanista painting. He presented samples of his works in New York, Washington DC, Paris and Tel-Aviv. He attended VI and VII Biennial of Sao Paulo, as well as group exhibitions in Mexico, Colombia and other countries.
He died on 14 May 2000.
