          Adrien Borel's Biography

French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, a bon vivant who was close to his patients, and a confidant and friend of various artists.
During the First World War he was seriously wounded in the fighting in 1915, where he served as an auxiliary surgeon. He began his analysis with René Laforgue and subsequently studied writers such as Michel Leiris and Georges Bataille, among others, before he stopped practising analysis. He was a founding member in 1926 of the Paris Psychoanalytical Society, which he chaired from 1932 to 1934, before resigning after the war.
In 1950, under the pseudonym “André Guibert”, Adrien Borel interpreted the role of the Curé de Torcy in Robert Bresson’s “Le Journal d’un curé de campagne”, based on the novel by Georges Bernanos.
From 1949 to 1955, he worked at the Bichat Hospital with Professor Guy Laroche, Head of Department.
Borel died on 19 September 1966, aged 80, in Beaumont-lès-Valence.
