Alfred Worden's Human Design Chart

5/1 Sacral Generator

**Alfred Worden: A Human Design Perspective**

Alfred Worden was a distinguished American astronaut and engineer, celebrated for his pivotal role as the Command Module Pilot for the Apollo 15 lunar mission in 1971. Born on February 7, 1932, in Jackson, Michigan, Worden’s life and career can be deeply understood through the lens of Human Design, where he is classified as a Generator. This type is known for its abundant life force and the ability to respond to opportunities, qualities that Worden embodied throughout his remarkable journey.

As one of only 24 individuals to have flown to the Moon, Worden orbited the lunar surface 74 times aboard the Command Module Endeavour. His mission was particularly groundbreaking, as he performed the first “deep space” extravehicular activity (EVA) in history, retrieving film cassettes from the spacecraft’s exterior while orbiting alone in the vastness of space. This experience showcased his Generator energy, as he thrived in responding to the unique challenges that space travel presented.

Elected by NASA in April 1966, Worden served as the command module pilot on the fourth manned lunar landing mission. While his fellow astronauts, David R. Scott and James B. Irwin, explored the lunar surface, Worden experienced profound solitude, reflecting his 5/1 Profile in Human Design. This profile often indicates a deep need for introspection and a desire to understand the world, which was evident in his thoughtful approach to exploration.

His Incarnation Cross, the Left Angle Cross of Masks (13/7 | 43/23), suggests a life path centered on exploration and the sharing of knowledge. This focus was clear in his post-NASA endeavors, where he continued to inspire others through his insights and experiences. After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1955, Worden served as a fighter pilot and armament officer before joining NASA. His contributions to the Apollo program included serving on the support crew for Apollo 9 and the backup crew for Apollo 12. Despite making only one space flight, his impact on aerospace was significant, culminating in the receipt of the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1971.

Following his retirement from NASA in September 1975 and from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel, Worden transitioned into the private sector, working with various corporations, including Ames Research Center and B.F. Goodrich Company. His experiences in space inspired him to write several books, including “Hello Earth: Greetings from Endeavor” and “I Want to Know About a Flight to the Moon,” showcasing his Generator trait of responding to creative impulses and sharing knowledge.

Worden’s personal life included three marriages, with his third wife, Jill Lee Hotchkiss, passing away in 2014. He had four children, reflecting the nurturing aspect of his Generator energy and his commitment to family. Alfred Worden passed away from a stroke on March 18, 2020, at the age of 88 in Sugar Land, Texas. His legacy as a pioneer in space exploration and a profound thinker continues to inspire many, embodying the essence of a Generator who responded to the call of the cosmos with curiosity and resilience.
