Annemarie Steinsieck's Biography
German actress who played leading roles in Berlin and Viennese stage productions, and supporting roles in various German films.
She received her education as an actress from Arthur Kraußneck and made her debut in Bielefeld in 1906. From 1907 to 1919 she appeared in Berlin stage productions, playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Gretchen in Faust, and so on.
In 1919 she moved to the Volkstheater in Vienna. Here she appeared in the dramas of Frank Wedekind and Oscar Wilde. At this time she also made her debut in Austrian silent film.
At the end of the 1920s she returned to Berlin, appearing on the stage in various roles. In film, she remained limited to supporting roles, for example in 1937 as the piqued wife of a bank director and counterpart to Grethe Weisers in Die göttliche Jette.
After the end of the war, Annemarie Steinsieck appeared mainly at the Tribüne and the Theater am Kurfürstendamm. One of her most important roles was the Countess in Die Soldaten (The Soldiers). As a drama teacher she trained Sabine Thalbach and Evamaria Bath, among others. She was married to the actor Hugo Werner-Kahle, with whom she was seen in some silent films together.
She died in in Berlin on 29 August 1977, aged 87.
