Brazilian scammer and TV personality who worked as a television salesman on local Italian broadcasters, he was involved and convicted together with Wanna Marchi and Stefania Nobile in a famous Italian court case. He was also known as Maestro do Nascimento, Mago do Nascimento or Maestro di vita.
Reportedly born into a destitute Brazilian family, he settled in Italy in 1991 and began his career as a waiter and cook with a self-styled Milanese marquis (or count), Attilio Capra de Carrè. Known as Wanna Marchi, he initially became her butler, then her sidekick in his telesales programmes, playing the role of a “magician” who distributed talismans against the evil eye, a fortune teller and a vendor of slimming substances. During these television broadcasts he also claimed to be the last descendant of a Brazilian priestess belonging to the Candomblé religion. Meanwhile, Do Nascimento lived in luxury in a medieval tower in Candelo in the province of Biella, claiming to earn “too much money”.
In December 2001, following a complaint from a Milanese pensioner and some reports on the Striscia la Notizie show, a huge national scam was discovered against about 300,000 viewers who turned to Marchi and the “magician” do Nascimento. The latter immediately left Italy without leaving a trace, but, while he was a fugitive, he was tried and sentenced with a final conviction in 2003 of four years imprisonment for abetting criminals in fraud and extortion.
He was identified five years later, again by Striscia la Notizia, in Salvador de Bahia in Brazil, where he had become a hairdresser.
Without ever having collaborated with justice, and without ever having presented himself in court or in prison, he benefited “ex officio” from a pardon in 2006 in which his sentence was reduced to just one year, which in any case Nascimento had never served.
