Gerd Nyquist's Biography
Norwegian novelist, most famous for her crime fiction. She also wrote documentaries and children’s and adolescent literature.
Age 19 she started studying journalism at the University of California, later History at the University of Oslo. During World War II she took part in the resistance movement, and she was awarded the Defence Medal 1940–1945.
She made her literary debut in 1957 with the novel “Måne over Munkeby” (‘Moon over Munkeby’). She is best known for her two crime novels “Avdøde ønsket ikke blomster” (‘The deceased didn’t want flowers’) from 1960, and “Stille som i graven” (‘Quiet like in the grave’) from 1966. She was a co-founder and the first President of Rivertonklubben (‘The Riverton Club’), the Norwegian association for the furtherance of crime fiction. Rivertonklubben was established at a meeting in Nyquist’s home on 12 June 1972.
Nyquist was married to ship broker Arild Otto Nyquist (14 September 1911 – 17 September 1974), with whom she had a son, writer Arild Nyquist.
Gerd Nyquist died on 23 November 1984 in Oslo. She was 71.
