Evelyn Hill's Biography
American psychologist considered a pioneer in her field. She published a cliniical handbook in 1972 advocating for the use of the Hotlzman inkblot test as an alternative to the Rorschach. She was a role model for female clinicians, counseling many women and advocating for the inclusion of private clinicians in the American Psychological Association. Hill began practicing psychology when she was well into her 50s. She graduated from Goucher College in 1956 at age 45, after raising her three children. She worked in private practce for four decades. From 1976 to 1979 she served as chair of the Maryland state licensing board for psychologists. In 1985 she was named the Distinguished Psychologist of the Year award from the private practice division of the American Psychological Association, in 1985. In 1988 she became the division’s first woman chairperson. At age 93 she wrote her autobiography.
She was married twice. After her divorce from Herbert Cooper she went to wrok for Kenneth Hill at International Telephone and Telegraph. They married and moved to Baltimore in 1948. He died in 1982. She had two daughters, a son and two step-children. She died September 13, 2006 in Towson, MD, three months after suffering a stroke. She was 95.
