Marsha Hunt's Biography
American actress who made her Broadway debut in 1948, had accomplished over 60 films but never achieved major stardom. Modeling that she did at the age of 17 led to a screen contract, and her on-screen debut in “The Virginia Judge” in 1935.
She was very active in the civil right movement, the U.N., the March of Dimes, the Red Cross, Cerebral Palsy and Freedom From Hunger. She was blacklisted by Hollywood film studio executives in the 1950s during McCarthyism. In later years Hunt was active in left wing political causes, such as supporting same-sex marriage, the marketing of climate change, and promoting peace in Third World countries.
In 1993, her book “The Way We Wore: Styles of the 1930s and ’40s and Our World Since Then” was published by Fallbrook Publishing.
Her first marriage, on 23 November 1938, was to film editor Jerry Hopper; the marriage lasted five years; divorced in 1945.
