He was known for his long, drawn-out monologues and the diminutive (5 ft 1/ 1.55 m) stand-up comic was a favourite on the 1960s David Frost Show with his mischievous sense of humour.
Corbett moved to London in 1951 and appeared in Crackerjack prior to The Frost Report (1966–1967). His star-making vehicle was produced by Frost, No – That’s Me Over Here! (1967-1970).
He was seen in a number of comedy series, including Now Look Here (1971-1973) and its follow-up, The Prince of Denmark (1974), and Sorry! (1981-1988).
In 1966, Corbett married actress and dancer Anne Hart; they had two daughters, actresses Emma and Sophie Corbett. Their first child, Andrew, had a heart defect and died, six weeks old, at St Thomas’ Hospital, London.
Corbett was a beekeeper and also a keen golfer.
On 31 March 2016, Corbett died at the age of 85 in hospital surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease in March 2015.
