In the the four volume work “Våre Falne [Our Fallen] 1939-1945,” commissioned by the Norwegian government in 1945 to commemorate those who had perished during the war, Bugge’s entry is in Volume 1, p. 375.
At the time of the German invasion of Norway, Bugge was second-in-command at the Flatøy airbase in Bergen. As a pilot he took part in combat over western and northern Norway. On 7 June 1940 he flew over to Shetland and then to Canada where he worked with the building up of the Norwegian air force. He was leader of the 330 Squadron, the first Norwegian operative squadron, which in 1941 was deployed to the Corbett Camp in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Bugge, together with his navigator, disappeared while on a raid over Iceland on 25 April 1942. After the war he was posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross (British), and the War Cross with Sword, the highest ranking Norwegian gallantry decoration.
