Dave Broadfoot's Biography
Canadian actor, a comedian, writer, director and producer, the co-founder of “The Royal Canadian Air Farce,” a show that won 13 national awards. The troop was popular on radio since the ’70s and segued into TV.
Broadfoot served in the Merchant Navy 1943-1947, then joined the family clothing business. On the side, he began to develop his stand-up act and in 1952, took his show on the road as a pro. He moved to Toronto on 7 September 1952 where he made his TV debut. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1955 and was named Comedian of the Year in 1959. That year, he produced and performed over 90 radio and TV sketches, performing for Queen Elizabeth II and for Armed Forces overseas.
A specialist of contemporary satire, Broadfoot averaged a hundred performances a year, writing much of the original material.
He married on 13 January 1967; one daughter. Broadfoot died on 1 November 2016 at the age of 90.
